Home Heating System

I’ve scoured the internet looking for the best resources for home heating systems (see below).

Home heating systems consist of hydrnonic heat, hvac, radiant heat, boilers, baseboard heat, steam heat, and furnaces.

Hydronic heat is heat transferred by water.

HVAC is heating ventilation air conditioning,

Radiant heat is associated with heat “radiating from a heat source” like a heated floor in your bathroom.

Baseboard heat is associated with a hydronic (water) system that is ususally a fin based system that is located at the base of the wall, runs horizontally along at least a portion of the wall and is heated by hot water from a boiler.

Furnaces are heating units that heat air versus boilers which heat water as a means to heat your home.

AFUE Ratings

While the AFUE ratings of an oil heating appliance may be lower than the “combustion efficiency” ratings of the appliance in the field, it is the rating that the homeowner should be most concerned about. Both of these ratings and their significance are fully explained in the Special Report.

Home Heating Oil terminology that can save you money

1. Budget Plans

Scheduled payments by the consumer to the heating oil company that is based on a calculated gross usage volume of oil used based on history. Normally it runs over an 11 month period. Some more progressive oil companies offer it over a full 12 months. This is good for the oil company since it spreads out their cash flow.

PRO: It's good for the home owner since it also spreads out their cash flow over the year so they don't have big payments 2 or 3 times a year.

CON: If the oil company isn't in good financial health they can spend that money and when heating season comes around, they don't have the money so they can't buy oil and the home owner is out the cash and out the oil. This has become a big problem all around the country.
